Licochalcone A, a retrochalcone derived from Glycyrrhiza inflata (licorice). Used in Eucerin Redness Relief line. Clinical study showed improvements in mean erythema and quality-of-life scores at 4 and 8 weeks, with efficacy similar to azelaic acid and topical metronidazole (Weber et al. 2006). Also decreased erythema from shaving and UV exposure when applied twice daily for 3 days (Kolbe et al. 2006). Anti-inflammatory mechanism: inhibits superoxide anion and cyclooxygenase activity.
